Playa Quemada, one of the secret corners of Lanzarote.
Is a small fishing village that seems to have not been affected over time. A black and white photograph of what our island looked like before the arrival of tourism.
“Quemado”, which in Spanish means “burnt”, describes quite well the arid landscape and the beaches of pebbles black as coal, that awaits you.
How to get there.
Located between Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca, (two of the most popular tourist destinations), Playa Quemada is located at the foot of the Natural Monument of Los Ajaches.
It can be reached by first taking the LZ-2, arriving from both north and south, and then taking the LZ-706, which in about four kilometers will lead us to this little corner of paradise.
By staying at the Sea Breeze or the Lizzy in Puerto del Carmen rather than at Villa Maura or Casa Telda in Playa Blanca, you will reach this little magical place in 15/20 minutes by car.
What to see.
When you arrive at Playa Quemada, you will have the impression of having entered a time machine.
The village is as it was in the 70s of the last century. People chatting, sitting in front of their white houses, the boats of the fishermen framing the black beaches, a silence almost foreign to our ears.
Only when we reach the seafront, with its fish restaurants overlooking the sea will we suddenly return, making the journey in reverse, to the 21st century!
The best beach of Playa Quemada is “Playa La Arena” which can be reached by passing over the cliff along the path clearly visible in case of high tide or directly from the village in case of low tide.
From Playa Quemada it is also possible to reach, on foot or by mountain bike, one of the most famous beaches of the Natural Monument of Los Ajaches, Playa del Pozo.
It is also possible to reach this and many other beaches in the surroundings by off-road vehicle, but you must be skilled drivers. Don’t venture out with a normal car! Also remember to bring plenty of water, food and sunscreen.
Where to eat.
Whether you want to have lunch or dinner at Playa Quemada, the environment is always welcoming. We recommend:
